Gosh I get such a high from a good bargain! Despite spending way too much over the holidays and against my best judgement, I popped into Restoration Hardware this past weekend. And amazingly they were having a major sale (I don’t think I have ever seen a sale in there)! My long search for decent bedding has at least ended. I snapped up this gorgeous duvet with matching shams. The duvet that is regularly $200 was only $57! I never thought I would be able to get a deal like that. I know it doesn’t have any of the sweet prints I have been eyeing but this was such a beautiful color and the quality is great.
I also never knew that European shams for bedding are not the standard pillow size. My new shams are for a 26″ x 26″ pillow? What kind of size is that? I saw that Ikea has them for $6.99 which is pretty reasonable but unfortunately they were sold out. They wont have any more til February.
My boyfriend and I are also planning some major painting projects. We will be starting to paint the kitchen and living room next weekend. Before I get chastised for my spending, we are using Home Depot gift cards redeemed with American Express points for all of the supplies. We are planning to paint the outside of the house as well and got a very reasonable quote. I haven’t quite saved up the money for that project however so it will have to wait.
I get so carried away with all of the house projects that I want to complete. My mother says I can become near “obsessive” with them. I don’t like that I can whine like a child when I can’t have what I want as soon as I want it. So I am going to make a few new years resolutions…
- No home projects will be started without the money for supplies being ready in cash before I begin.
- I will actively do my “gratefulness exercises”. I will remind myself daily that all the things I want are material and worth very little overall. I will remind myself how lucky I am to have what I have and try to pace myself.
- I really need to start an emergency fund. I am always saving for a new project and then I promptly spend it when I have reached goal. I currently don’t have anything saved for those “in case” situations.
- I will pay off my Christmas debt ASAP. I am shooting for February 1st.
- I really want to have another week long vacation next year and to FINALLY get my countertops done. So I am going to start another holiday account (the one that was depleted by my Miami trip). These are my big “spending” goals for the year.
- I am going to start exercising. This is at the bottom of my priority list but I know it is good for me (as boyfriend likes to keep reminding me).
Has anyone else started on any New Years Resolutions? What challenges are you attempting?
